Clearcharge

Terms of use

Last updated 27 July 2026

Not yet reviewed by a lawyer. These terms are a good-faith draft written by the site's operator. They have not been reviewed by an attorney, and nothing here should be treated as a considered legal position. If you are relying on this site for anything consequential, that reliance is not covered by these terms — see "No warranty" below.

What Clearcharge is

Clearcharge republishes hospital price information that hospitals are required to publish themselves under the CMS Hospital Price Transparency Rule (45 CFR 180.50), together with public data from CMS, AHRQ, and the U.S. Census Bureau. We do not set prices, negotiate rates, provide care, or bill anyone for care.

The prices here are not quotes

Nothing on this site is an offer, a quote, an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost, or a guarantee that any hospital will charge you a particular amount. A published rate is what a hospital reported for a billing code, which is not the same as your bill. What you actually owe depends on your insurance plan, your deductible and coinsurance, the specific services you receive, and decisions made during your care that nobody can know in advance.

Several limits are structural rather than temporary, and we state them on the pages themselves:

Not medical, legal, or financial advice

Clearcharge does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for talking to a clinician. Never choose, delay, or avoid care based on a price you saw here. We are not licensed financial or insurance advisors, and nothing here is advice about which plan to buy, which hospital to use, or how to handle a bill you have received.

Accuracy and source data

We take accuracy seriously and correct errors when we find them, but the underlying files are published by hundreds of separate organisations in inconsistent formats, and some contain mistakes at the source. We may correct obvious transcription errors in a hospital's published description, and we may present a procedure under a plainer name than the hospital used. We do not alter published prices. Always confirm a price directly with the hospital and your insurer before relying on it.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or current.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Clearcharge and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, information on this site — including any difference between a price shown here and a bill you receive.

Paid services

Everything on this site is free. There are no accounts, no subscriptions and no paid tier, so there is nothing to bill and no card details to store. Requests are rate limited to keep the site responsive for everyone; the limits are not published and may change.

Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to circumvent rate limits, scrape the site in a way that degrades it for other people, misrepresent the data as your own original research, or present figures from this site as a quote or guarantee to a patient. The underlying hospital files are public and you are welcome to go to the source.

Trademarks and other people's marks

"Clearcharge" and the Clearcharge logo are trademarks of the site's operator, claimed under common law. They are not registered trademarks, and we do not claim registration.

Hospital names, health system names, insurer and payer names, and any other third-party marks shown on this site belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the organisation the data describes. Their appearance here does not imply any affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from those organisations.

CPT® is a registered trademark of the American Medical Association. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the AMA. We do not reproduce the AMA's copyrighted CPT descriptions; procedure names shown here are either written by us or taken from hospitals' own published descriptions. Where we use CPT code numbering, we use it as the structural identifier that hospitals are legally required to publish against.

MS-DRG titles are published by CMS. HCUP data is published by AHRQ. Neither agency endorses this site.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
