Hospital prices, out in the open.

The 10 most common operations at U.S. hospitals, ordered by how many people have each one. Pick one to see what Georgia hospitals charge -- or search for something else below.

What this can and can't tell you. Hospitals publish their own prices, so that is what you get here: for an inpatient stay, the price of the whole admission, which is the closest thing in this data to a real bill. What no hospital publishes is the doctors' side -- the surgeon and anesthesiologist are usually separate businesses that bill you directly. Treat every figure here as the hospital's share, not your total.

Why the numbers on this page differ from each other: an MS-DRG covers a whole inpatient admission and is the figure shown first for each procedure, a single CPT code is one billed line beneath it, and a hospital's own "shoppable" price (marked 🔖 in the search box above) is a bundle the hospital defines itself. They are three different things and are labelled as such rather than blended into one figure -- combining them would produce a total no source actually states. Ranks above are 2023 HCUP National Inpatient Sample figures -- the largest public all-payer inpatient database in the country -- used here only to order the list by how many people actually need each procedure. That dataset counts inpatient stays only, so procedures that have shifted mostly to outpatient surgery (knee replacement is the clearest example: #5 nationally in 2004, out of the inpatient top 10 by 2023) rank lower than their real-world frequency. Costs shown are Georgia hospital rates, not national figures.
